Happy birthday this week to several locals: Happy birthday to Melissa Hurley. May she have a great birthday for herself with her family. Happy birthday to one of Somerville’s finest attorneys, Edwin Smith. Happy birthday as well to Caroline Shea-Rosas. We hope she enjoys her special day. Happy birthday to Scott Diamond, who grew up in West Somerville. We wish him a good day for himself. To all the others we may have missed – and yes, we must admit there are a few more out there – we sincerely wish them the very best of birthdays.

It seems like the newly elected aldermen who campaigned on affordable housing and the rest of the members might be slowing down the North Street joint public and private development, which is a 40B project and. once completed. would provide 50% affordable housing on the site. Seems like the Board of Aldermen are micro-managing the project and might be ill informed about this development. It’s like they feel the developer is getting a sweetheart deal on the land and if they stop this project the city and the SHA will lose out on a $17 million grant from the state. We think think BOA is being short sighted and hypocritical in trying to stall the project for the tenants, as well as neighbors, who many want this development to move forward.

We hear a rumor that the longtime director of the Somerville Community Corp., Danny LeBlanc, is going to retire shortly. Kind of interesting, if you think about. Timing is everything!
