GLX pre-construction milestone and update

On January 31, 2018, in Latest News, by The Somerville Times

GLX Constructors, the design-build entity for the MBTA Green Line Extension Project, will initiate its first field presence tomorrow, February 1, with the advancement of pre-construction activities in preparation of full-scale construction beginning later this year.

Field work in the coming days will include land survey activities to be followed by soil drilling/boring, limited tree and vegetation removal, and pre-construction property surveys for abutting homes and businesses along the existing commuter rail lines. Home owners and businesses will be notified in advance when pre-construction survey work is scheduled for their property.

The following is a tentative overview of scheduled activities beginning this week. While the nature of field construction work inside an active railroad right of way requires a constant ability to adapt to changing conditions, the GLX team is committed to providing the most accurate and current schedule information available to the community at all times. We will continue to modify announcements as needed. All work is weather permitting.

  1. CAP says:

Major milestones – They’ll be coming out to remove some vegetation, and the installation dates for temporary fencing have been confirmed. We’re really rolling now, baby!

  2. Old Taxpayer says:

Could mean more money for Somerville if they listen to NY as they want to tax properties higher that live close to public transportation. They can help pay more towards this. Creative taxing.
