The East Somerville Community School and Somerville High School debate teams made impressive showings in their first tournament appearances. Under the guidance of Ms. Gouvea and Mr. Weaver, ESCS sent six middle grades student teams and four individual debaters to compete in a tournament at Suffolk University.

Despite it being their first tournament, five students received Novice Division Awards, including a fifth place team finish, an 11th place team finish, and a 15th place individual finish.

The Somerville High School debate team, led by Ms. Masillon and Mr. Jabour, faced off against other high school debaters at a tournament held at Boston Latin Academy. Three student teams and two individual members competed. SHS earned a Novice Division team award. The next high school tournament will be held January 20th at Suffolk University.
