The Massachusetts Bankers Association Charitable Foundation recently presented a $5,000 check to support community programs at Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES). The check was accepted by SCES Assistant Director Mary Ann Dalton. The agency was nominated for the award by Roma Mayur (right) of the Cambridge Trust Company.

The Massachusetts Bankers Association (MBA) Charitable Foundation recently donated $5,000 to support programs and services at Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services (SCES).

The MBA foundation is supported by 150 member banks and loan associations across New England, and distributes community grants at the end of each year. The foundation awarded 43 grants totaling $167,000 in 2017—the most in its 21-year history, said foundation chairman William Parent.

“We are thrilled to be able to give these gifts,” said Parent.  “This foundation has done so much good work over the years, yet each gift-giving season we see more need.  That’s why each year, we rededicate ourselves to this effort to help in any way we can.”

SCES was nominated for the competitive grant by the Cambridge Trust Company. The donation will be used to support programs that help older adults and people with disabilities maintain independence and well-being at home, explained SCES Executive Director Paul Hollings.

“Donations to our agency support home-delivered meals, medical advocates, and other programs that make a real difference in the lives of local older adults,” said Hollings. “We really appreciate the generous support from the MBA Charitable Foundation and the Cambridge Trust for nominating us.”

The Massachusetts Bankers Association Charitable Foundation awards are symbolic of the many individual donations banks make on a regular basis to organizations and causes in their local communities. In addition to the nearly $84 million a year given by Massachusetts banks to local charities, MBA member bank employees contribute thousands of volunteer hours across the Commonwealth.
