It was a lucky St. Patrick’s Day last Friday for a 47-year-old Medford man who tumbled onto the train track at Somerville’s Davis Square T station.

Tufts students who were at the train station en route to their St. Patrick’s Day celebrations saw the man fall and leapt into action to save him.

The first to jump onto the track to help the man was a 20-year-old freshman, Eric Sinton. He and his friends helped to lift the man back onto the platform out of danger.

A video released by the MBTA showed the students saving the man’s life by getting him off the track before a train came by, but they also want to warn the public that it is never a good idea to jump onto the tracks due to the live third rail.
