Soon the national pastime will start up once again. So Somerville poet Ed Meek throws us a curve ball of a poem. Ed has recently released a collection of short stories titled Luck.

Curve ball

Ed Meek

It was a slow curve—

A big bender,

Spinning against

The trajectory of the ball

It hung

At the apex

Suspending time

Like a full moon

While I waited

Back on my heels.

And when I finally

went for it,

it was nowhere near

where I expected

it to be.

Sometimes even

When you know what’s coming

You still miss it.
