On July 10, two Somerville residents captured a bronze medal at the Bay State Games with the Metro girl’s hockey team. Kaleigh Conte (Phillips Exeter) and Shannon Higgins (Somerville High) helped lead the Metro team to 7-3 victory over the Southeast/Coastal team in the bronze medal game.

The Metro team scored two goals in the first three minutes of the game and never relinquished the lead. Abigail Knight (Arlington Catholic) helped pace the offensive attack scoring three goals; a goal in each of the three periods. Also, adding goals were Bridget Crane (Arlington Catholic), Laura Shea (Arlington High), Reid Nichols (East Coast Junior Wizards), and Brianna Swanson (Malden High). On defense, Conte and Higgins were vital in stopping the Southeast/Coastal offensive attack. Conte and Higgins contributed offensively and defensively throughout the four day tournament.
