Police were called to the Cityline Laundromat on Broadway last week on reports that a man, later identified as Robert Galvin, was stripping off his clothes and attempting to wash them in machines claimed by other patrons.

Upon arrival by police, Galvin was reportedly cooperative and readily indicated that he was the man they were there to investigate.

One of the officers responding to the complaint noted that Galvin’s appearance – including the clothing he was wearing – matched the description of a suspected car burglar who was reported to police just 20 minutes earlier.

According to a witness to the break-in, the suspect rummaged around in the car and eventually left, carrying away certain objects from inside the vehicle.

Another witness reportedly told police that the suspect left with a drawstring backpack in his possession.

According to reports, the owner of the car said that the following items were taken from the vehicle: a DeWalt Drill which was part of a set valued at $300, and $200 Cash. Also taken was a gold plated whistle, various coins, and food that the victim planned to donate.

Additionally, it appeared the suspect had dropped a few items of his own. An iPhone of an unknown owner was recovered. Also recovered was a MASS DTA Card belonging to a Robert Galvin, and an AARP Letter addressed to a resident of Mt. Pleasant St. in Somerville, MA. A search of SPD records revealed that a Robert Galvin was known to reside at Mt. Pleasant St.

Galvin was placed into handcuffs while officers looked through his belongings inside the laundromat.

A bag containing many of the items reported stolen from the earlier auto break-in were found in a bag belonging to Galvin.

Galvin was placed under arrest and charged with larceny over $250 and felony daytime breaking and entering of a vehicle or boat.
