The City of Somerville Water Department is conducting a Flushing Program throughout the water distribution system. The city will be flushing hydrants and operating gate valves to maintain the distribution system. This work will take place between the hours of 11 p.m. on Monday, July 11 through 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 12.

Residents may experience a short period of water discoloration during the flushing and shortly thereafter. Though the water may be discolored, it is safe to drink.

Until the water runs clear, it is advisable to avoid washing clothes, especially white fabrics. If any rust stains appear on wet laundry, the clothes should not be dried, and residents can call 311 or 617-666-3311 from cellphone or outside the city for a free bottle of rust remover.

The following streets will be affected:

Albion St.
Alpine St.
Princeton St.
Woodbine St.
Centre St.
Albion Ct.
Albion Ter.
Bellevue Ter.
Cedar St. (Albion to Alpine)
Central St. (Albion to train tracks)
