Earlier this month at the Healey School, after school students and their families enjoyed an entertaining performance by FOODPLAY Productions, a national award winning evidence-based program that travels to schools throughout the country.

Through the PEP grant, the Boys & Girls Club and the Somerville YMCA hosted the performance, which is a live nutrition education theater show for students and families. FOODPLAY’s mission is to turn kids on to healthy eating and active living. The program accomplishes this through live theater that includes amazing feats of juggling, music, magic, and audience participation to help kids take charge of growing up healthy and fit.

Throughout the performance, they talked about eating at least five (5) fruits and vegetables each day, the importance of reading food labels, fueling up with breakfast, being active at least one (1) hour each day, and cutting down on sugary beverages and choosing water more often. In line with these messages, fruit kabobs, water and other healthy snacks were provided for students and their families.
