Now that medical marijuana is legal in Massachusetts, the City of Somerville has established a Medical Marijuana Treatment Facility Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from the city’s Department of Health and Human Services, the Planning Department, and the Police Department.

The Advisory Committee will serve to administer a fair and objective municipal review process for all parties interested in opening a Medical Marijuana Treatment Facility in Somerville.

Officials are inviting interested parties to an information session where they will explain how the application process will work. The session will take place on Tuesday, April 26, 11:30 a.m., at Somerville City Hall, 93 Highland Ave.

Potential applicants are especially encouraged to attend, as formal applications will be made available. Members of the public are also welcome to attend.

Medical marijuana treatment facilities will be limited to certain central business districts, and the city has drawn up an overlay map of their potential locations. You can find the designated areas here: http://www.somervillema.gov/sites/default/files/MedMarOverlay_2016.02.23large.pdf.
