Our poet this week is David P. Miller. Miller is a member of the Somerville Bagel Bards, a literary group that has been meeting every Saturday since 2004.

Awake in the Sleeping Car

David P. Miller

The orange rabbit-faced moon

skews its eyes down sideways,

just above the shadowed horizon

behind snowfields blacked out

at dusk. Our lingering, languid

train leaves Schenectady:

the moon’s avatar rises

in neon over brick:

script-entwined G and E

in a great green radiant circle.

The spheres attend

this little population on rails

passing in the new-fallen night,

lagging late hours toward home.
