Farmer’s Market offering Somerville items for that special person

Escape the weekend chill this Saturday at the best community gathering space in Somerville. Here’s your last chance to pick up a unique item for that special person, to show their or your Somerville pride, as well as support historic enrichment projects in the community. The Somerville Historic Preservation Commission, working with artwork by the SHS CAD students, has designed “Preserving Somerville: Home to Diverse Architecture, Streets, and People merchandise which is available for sale. Stop by to see all of the T-shirts (youth and adult sizes), long-sleeved shirts, and tote bags which come in a variety of colors and will be on display this Sat., Feb. 13th, at the Winter Farmer’s Market located at the Somerville Armory at 181 Highland Ave.,and open from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Also, to keep you warm and cozy, consider purchasing a full color woven and washable afghan with images of iconic historic sites in the city. Each afghan comes with a separate narrative summary of each image’s historic significance. All of this merchandise can also be viewed on the Commission’s website via http://www.somervillema.gov/departments/historic-preservation-commission/shop

If you can’t make it this Saturday, the last time at the Indoor Market, the merchandise can be purchased online by credit card and then pick-up at City Hall, 93 Highland Avenue. Checks should be payable to “City of Somerville- Historic Celebration Fund.” Arrangements for mailing, or delivery of items within Somerville may be made by contacting Brandon Wilson in advance at BWilson@somervillema.gov, or the SHPC at 617-625-6600 ext 2500.

Prices for shirts and tote bags range from $10 to $20, and afghans are $65.00. Fifty percent of the item price may be considered a tax deductible donation. Proceeds will benefit City preservation projects, including walking tours, the Historic Plaque Program, Preservation Awards Program, and other heritage education projects. All items are also available at the Somerville Museum, 1 Westwood Road (by appointment: 617-666-9810), and current Somerville Museum members are eligible for a 10% discount.
