Somerville families are invited to celebrate Family Literacy Month on Saturday, November 21 at the 2015 Somerville Early Childhood Fair – Family Literacy Celebration.

Somerville early education and care schools, programs, providers and other local community agencies will participate in this annual event from 10 a.m. to noon at the Arthur D. Healey School.

Families are invited to stop by to learn about a wide range of community resources available to Somerville families with young children, explore books with their children, partake in fun family literacy activities, and meet other parents and friends in the neighborhood.

Walking fruits and vegetables will be an important part of the day’s events as a celebration of health and wellness. Children aged birth to six years old can enjoy a multitude of fun activities, including activities that promote youth and family health and wellness, presented by early education providers and community agencies. Each family will receive a free copy of the children’s book Feast for 10 by Cathryn Falwell, a counting book that features a family shopping for food, preparing dinner, and sitting down to eat.

This annual event continues to grow each year. An estimated 400 people attended the Literacy Fair last year. We expect more than 25 early childcare centers and community agencies and organizations to join the fair again this year.

The Somerville Early Childhood Literacy Fair is sponsored by the Somerville Family Learning Collaborative (SFLC), a department of the Somerville Public Schools, and SomerPromise.
