Middlesex%20DA%20Marian%20Ryan%20LogoMiddlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Everett Police Chief Steven Mazzie have announced that Stephanie Malloy, 37, of Somerville, was arraigned in Malden District Court today on a charge of furnishing alcohol to minors.

Judge Dominic Paratore released Malloy on personal recognizance and ordered Malloy to stay away from drugs and alcohol and to comply with all orders from the Department of Children & Families. The defendant will also be subject to random drug and alcohol screens. The next scheduled hearing in this case is Tuesday, September 29.

“This is an example of the why social host responsibility laws exist,” said District Attorney Ryan. “Even in a private residence, consumption of alcohol by a person under 21 is illegal. Those who host and condone underage drinking run the risk of abetting dangerous and harmful outcomes. I urge parents and guardians to take steps to ensure that underage drinking does not occur in their households.”

Everett Police Chief Steven Mazzie added, “It is extremely important that parents set good examples and set limitations on what behavior will be allowed in their homes. Teenagers are relying on us to do the right thing by them and this case highlights the negative consequences when adults don’t do their part.”

Authorities allege that an underage drinking party took place at Malloy’s residence on Friday evening, March 6.

A man attending the event reportedly left the residence with another party goer and then allegedly attacked this teenage party goer, leaving her outside in the driveway of a private residence on Appleton Street in Everett. This man has been identified by the Everett Police Department as Sami Sherif, 19, of Everett. Following an investigation, Sherif was arrested on Friday, March 27 and has since been indicted on a charge of rape by a Middlesex County Grand Jury. The next scheduled court hearing in Sherif’s case is Tuesday, November 17.

Bail set by Judge Elizabeth Fahey for Sherif is $5,000 cash with conditions to include compliance with GPS monitoring, a curfew from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., no contact with the victim, he must report to probation once a week, he must seek and maintain school or employment, applying online to five jobs per week and providing proof of his applications to his probation officer, and he must surrender his passport.

On March 7, at approximately 6:45 a.m., a woman was found unconscious in a driveway of a home on Appleton Street in Everett and a resident of the property said the woman’s clothing was in disarray and blood was found on her and near her.

The victim was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where a test at approximately 7:15 a.m., indicated the victim had a blood alcohol level of .237 mg/dl. Medical professionals gave the victim a thirty percent chance of survival and she was unconscious for two days before recovering and then being released from the hospital.

These charges are allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

This case has been investigated by the Everett Police Department with the assistance of Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory.

The prosecutor assigned to the arraignment today was Assistant District Attorney Caitlin Gemmill. The prosecutors assigned to these cases are Assistant District Attorney Beth Dunigan and Assistant District Attorney Jessica Langsam. The Victim Witness Advocate is Kristen Chamberlain.
