The BIG tiny house festival this weekend

On September 19, 2014, in Latest News, by The Somerville Times

thebigtiny (2)Coming from far and wide tiny homes, small house builders, creators and crafters, organizations, and enthusiasts will gather in Somerville on Saturday, September 20th to discuss little living!

The tiny house movement has ramped up over the last decade from a subculture proposing a move away from McMansion-sized homes to very small and often portable houses. Several people have jumped on this bandwagon.

There won’t just be a few tiny homes on hand (and even one you can walk into!) but also a do it yourself craft fair, kids activities (including building REALLY tiny houses!), live acoustic music throughout the day, food trucks, and organizations like Hammerstone Schools Capentry for Women and Yestermorrow talking about their work in the movement. There will also be a film screening at 7:30pm of the movie “Tiny” directed by Merete Mueller and Chris Smith and a follow up Q&A session with some Tiny House experts!

On Sunday the event will have 4 workshops held between 12-4pm on different themes relevant to hopeful tiny home builders. These include a talk/demonstration from Doug Immel, an experienced tiny home owner and builder, a crash course on basic tools from Hammerstone Schools Carpentry for Women (women only class), and more. Look for details and purchase tickets to the workshops through our website on Friday, September 12th.
