July 4th Robbery Suspect Arrested

Somerville Police have arrested the person responsible for the July 4th robbery of an elderly woman in Somerville. On July 10, 2014, Jarone McKinney of Berkshire Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts, was taken into custody without incident by the Boston Police and formally placed under arrest by the Somerville Police.

McKinney allegedly forcefully ripped the money out of the women’s hands as she sat on a bench at the Twin City Mall in Somerville counting her money. A photo of the suspect was aired by local media outlets. Based on several leads called into police, identification was made.

Mr. McKinney was charged with 1 count of Unarmed Robbery. He was arraigned at the Somerville District Court on Friday, July 11, 2014. Based on the Somerville charges, he was held on $5000.00 cash bail.
