Our View of the Times – December 18

powderhouse_viewIt’s now more than fairly likely that the old McGrath Hwy. structure will be coming down, to be replaced by a ground level boulevard, as recommended by MassDOT and others who have been involved in the process of determining the best solution for the future of the thoroughfare.

Even though the consensus of opinion would seem to support the proposal, questions remain regarding timelines, costs, and the optimal configuration of the new roadway. It is certain that much discussion, including input from those affected in and around the community, will be forthcoming.

It is hoped that all concerned residents, commercial interests, and civic leaders give serious time and consideration to the project and let their views be known. This will be a major undertaking, costing a lot of money, and affecting the lives of nearly all of us who live in or near the city.

Now is the time to let our voices be heard, during this period of planning and refining of the general strategy to be implemented over the near and long term. After the plan is set and the wheels are in motion there won’t be much of an opportunity to make an impact on what will be done. Once the horse is out of the barn it’ll be too late to make much of an impact, if any at all.
