UMass Lowell Students helped distribute 5,000 meals this Thanksgiving.

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Boston partnered with the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley to distribute nearly 5,000 Thanksgiving meals to families in need throughout Boston and the surrounding communities this month. The event in Somerville took place Saturday morning, November 23 at Catholic Charities Greater Boston, 270 Washington Street, Somerville.

Cardinal Seán Patrick O’Malley participated in the Thanksgiving distribution at Catholic Charities Yawkey Center location in Dorchester, Saturday, November 23rd. Catholic Charities’ distribution is part of United Way’s effort to distribute meals to more than 13 local communities through their annual Thanksgiving Project.

Thanksgiving baskets, consisting of more than 100,000 total pounds of food, were distributed in Dorchester, Boston’s South End, Brockton, South Boston and Lowell.  Volunteers from UMass Lowell were on hand to assist with distribution of donated turkeys at their school.
