With schools out and summer in full swing, Somerville offers a variety of activities for youth ranging from sports to arts, and many others to get involved in over the break.

“Making Somerville a great place to live, work, play and raise a family begins with a commitment to our residents, especially our youth, and we are fortunate in this city to be able to increase and expand programming and recreational activities each summer,” said Mayor Curtatone in a statement.

These programs include clinics in basketball, football, soccer, tennis and track. In addition, fitness programs are offered in skating, swimming and boxing. Programs and activities such as camps and swimming lessons run through the summer. For more information regarding these activities visit www.somervillerec.com.

“We offer a dynamic list of events and programs, from sports camps to our SomerMovie Fest and SomerStreets series to some of the most popular family-friendly events in the region. We have literally something for everyone, and we look forward to a jam-packed summer,” elaborated Mayor Curtatone.

There is a definite commitment from the city to keep these programs running and available each and every year. According to the Mayor’s office it is important to provide these options and alternatives to the community and its youth.

With so many programs offered there is something for everyone, be it arts, sports, or summer camps. In addition with friendly and knowledgeable staff running the activities, the participants can expect positive and enjoyable experience while learning something new and having fun in the sun.
