The Somerville Police Department Motorcycle Unit proudly escorted the family of fallen MIT Police Officer Sean Collier on Wednesday to MIT in Cambridge for a ceremony in his honor.

Over four thousand law enforcement officers, firefighters and first responders were in attendance at MIT, as well as Vice President Joe Biden, to pay a final tribute and bid farewell to an inspiring young man, a police officer who loved his job and left this world way to young.

Officer Collier, before recently becoming an MIT Police officer, worked at the Somerville Police Department’s IT Department while on the Somerville Police Department’s Auxiliary Police Unit.

Sean was scheduled to join the Somerville Police Department as a full time Somerville Police officer this coming summer.

Officer Collier was ambushed and murdered last weekend by the two Boston Marathon Bombing brother suspects while was in his police cruiser.
