One man has been arrested following a shooting that occurred late Sunday evening in Somerville, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone and Somerville Police Chief Thomas Pasquarello announced today.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Somerville police were called to 196 Broadway for report of a shooting.  A 28-year-old male victim was found evidencing a gunshot wound to the neck.  He was transported to Mass General Hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.

Santano Dessin, 33, of Somerville, was arrested and charged with armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

Dessin will be arraigned Tuesday in Somerville District Court.

It is alleged that the defendant had a verbal argument with the victim.  The defendant then allegedly shot the victim.

Authorities launched an immediate investigation into the circumstances of the shooting and the investigation remains ongoing.  It does not appear to be a random attack.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Somerville Police are investigating.
