The View From Prospect Hill – August 29

Congratulations are in order for the successful Somerville Fight Night fundraiser held last week at Dilboy Stadium, benefiting the Somerville Boxing Club. There was a good turnout and the crowd was thoroughly entertained by the event.

The SBC provides a great service for youth in the Somerville area, helping kids to stay fit and engaged in a wholesome activity, while simultaneously instilling in them an important sense of self worth and determination to better themselves.

Founded in 1978, the club has gone through many iterations and changes in locale. Currently located in the basement at the Edgerly School at 11 Otis St., the efforts of the countless volunteers and the City of Somerville’s Recreation Development stand as a testament to the community’s commitment to enhancing the lives of Somerville’s youth.

By providing a venue for youth to train and develop their skills in boxing, a larger goal is accomplished. That of keeping kids away from street life and drug use, while building their characters and boosting confidence in their own abilities as individuals.

The SBC represents a cause that we can all believe in and support. That of giving our kids the best possible opportunity to grow strong, smart, and well equipped to handle life’s challenges.

Everyone can participate by giving of their time, money, and moral support. Stop by and learn firsthand what a great program is underway – and you can drop off a check, too, while you’re at it.
