Somerville girls track fares well at McIntyre Relays

Led by several solid performances, the Somerville girls track team delivered impressive results in last weekend’s girls state coaches meet held at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Nicole Genard, who finished second in the 55-meter hurdles, achieved her personal best time of 8.20, good for second place and ninth overall in the nation.

Genard also shined in the spotlight, finishing eighth in the long jump with a leap of 16-8.

In the two-mile run, Iartiza Menjivar placed fourteenth with a personal best time of 11:50.61, the second fastest time ever in school history behind record holder Katherine Rozakis (11:37 in 2002). Pristine Mei also accomplished her personal best en route to a time of 12:42.64.

Michel’le Meranda also recorded her personal best in the 300 meters en route to a time of 43.25 while Gelynne Berger managed a 7.91 in the 55 meter dash. Ashley Murphy also ran 8.01 in the 55 meter dash while Natalie David tossed a 29-11.5 in the shot put.

In the 600 meters, Sasha Garczynski finished with a time of 1:43.59.

In the 4×200 meter relay, the team of Berger, Ashley Murphy finished with a season best 1:49.46.
