Soccer star Morais named league MVP

With the fall season officially in the books, a multitude of Somerville High School athletes were awarded Greater Boston League all-star status.

Homero Morias, who emerged as a dominant force on the soccer field, earned the Greater Boston League’s Most Valuable Player award along with being named to the Boston Globe and Boston Herald Division 1 All-Scholastic Boys Soccer team. John Wallace was named to the espn.com All-State All-Star Football squad.

Named to the Greater Boston League All-Star team on the golf squad were Robbie Anderson, Kyle Higgins and Alison Monteith. Nicole Genard, Lorenza Etienne, Tatiana Rivera and Brittany Cassidy were named to the GBL volleyball all-star team.

On the girl’s soccer team, Marrara Goncalves, Natalie Henrique, and Cassie Marsden were named to the first team while Kelsey Garrity and Tayla Plett were named to the all-league second team.

For boys soccer Kevin Monteil, Toby Moynihan and Edgardo Perez were named to the first team all-star squad. Pristine Mei, Iartiza Menjivar and Rita Musello-Kelliher were named to the girls cross country all-star squad.

For boys cross country, Mike Conte and Ed Chen were named to the all-star team. Leading the way on all-league football teams were Highlanders Devon Hairston, Danny Dell’Isola, Joshua Scarry, Wallace and Kevin Wint.

Capping off the awards was the Girls Cross Country team and Fall cheerleading, each of whom won the Greater Boston League title.
