A 48-year-old man was arrested after driving drunk on Temple Street Sunday, police said.

Stephen Vangel was asked to leave a Bond Street home after he fell repeatedly inside the house, police said. When an officer arrived, Vangel was allegedly driving away.

Two women approached an officer and said, “You have to stop him, he is so drunk, he is going to kill somebody,” according to police.

The women said Vangel was planning to drive home to Vermont. Police stopped Vangel at the intersection of Mystic Avenue and Temple Street. Before an officer was able to exit the cruiser, Vangel had exited his own car and was attempting to walk toward the officer but continued to “stumble along,” police said.

Vangel had slurred speech and glassy eyes and kept saying that he just wanted to go home, police said. Police allegedly found a half empty bottle of Smirnoff vodka in his car.

He was arrested and charged with drunk driving.
