Our View of the Times – February 24

powderhouse_viewWhat is it with certain properties in our fair city? Why do some of them seem to be so problematic in terms of finding their proper niche in our warp and woof?

We’ve watched in wonder over the years as the old Star Market site gradually transforms into a cobweb farm, and lately a similar fate seems to be in the cards for the Powder House Community School site, judging from all the failure to launch episodes that have played out in recent times.

Like a homely sister at the school sock hop, we just can’t seem to cajole anyone into asking the pitiful creature to get up and dance. Even our oldest and closest pals shrink at the prospect.

And yet, something must be done about her. She has worth. She has her dignity, after all.

And so, we have no choice but to keep trying to pawn the poor thing off on whoever may be willing to pony up the price of a makeover and the gumption to be seen with her in public.

Sure, the right one will come along eventually. They always do, don’t they?

In the meantime, we can whisper or shout, conspire or ignore. We all play our parts in this desperate little dance.

Let’s just not let desperation hold sway over our better judgment when it comes to settling on a final suitor.

There are plenty of fish in the sea. Even for the least attractive among us, our day will come. This old girl is more than ready.
